Exogeny Network Media Partners
http://exogeny.ning.com
April 16th, 2010.
I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to everyone who has joined the Exogeny Network Social Network on the Ning.com service.
Many of you know that Ning in the past few hours made the
following blog post available to the public.
Excerpts from:
http://blog.ning.com/2010/04/an-update-from-ning.html
“As many of you know, we made a decision yesterday tofocus 100% of the company on enhancing the features and services we offer to
paying Ning Creators.” “As part of this change, we’ll be phasing out our free
service. On May 4, 2010, we will share with you all of the details of our
new offering, including features and price points, through a series of blog
posts, emails, and conference calls.” Posted by Jason Rosenthal,

I have just invited MANY of you, perhaps for the first time to join http://exogeny.ning.com, in these past two weeks.
Many of you have had a relationship online with myself, or one of what I call
“our” digital assets.
As I, like millions of other users, am not on the Board of Directors of
Ning.com; I have no idea what the details of their ‘new offering’ are going to
be.
The one thing I do know, it (Ning.com) is not going to be free any longer.
In the next 17 days I will be implementing a “migration
strategy” in the event that the Ning.com services are entirely too
expensive for us to maintain our social network here at http://exogeny.ning.com.
Any Exogeny Network member(s) interested in what I have planned, are free to
e-mail me at the following address: admin@exogenynetwork.com.
I have had no contingency plan for continuation of http://exogeny.ning.com as a
paid service. What I can tell each user of the Exogeny Network sites on
Ning.com is this:
In the event that http://exogeny.ning.com is NOT supported by a grant or a
donation from the Exogeny Center Foundation Committee membership, or an act of overt generosity on the part of
a private party, or group of parties, we will not be
requesting that our membership pay a fee for the continuation of service(s)
through Ning Networks as a paid subscription service.
This applies to the Exogeny Network family of Ning Networks: Exogeny Network, Exogeny Center, RescueShelters.org Social Networking for Humane Organizers, and all other digital assets of Exogeny Network Media Partners.
I extend the hand of cooperation to the members of Amazonas Rainforest Beta, The Open Networkers Forum, YouMeUs, The Greater New Orleans Digital Media Alliance, IAmSharing, Free document publishing for Ning networks and the Web (DoxTop), The Secret of
Success.com, Ohio Social Network, Internet Marketing Knowledge, The Goddess
Tree, Cultural Fusion AaP, and RadioHosts Network on Ning, Ning Creators’
Network, any other Ning networks which I or you my friends belong to are also
welcome to join me in the execution of any continuity planning or eventual
migration strategy for our social networking sites.
As some of you know, I have made statements on (this) social networking platform that I will always maintain a policy of being transparent regarding costs toward any person
wishing to be a part of the social networking universe that is at the heart of
Exogeny Network Media.
If there are costs involved for membership to any site we operate, you will always know up front and exactly how much, when and for what you are expected to be paying.

I have read the NING announcement as well. We use it here in doXtop and we also have it in work in some other places. I think the NING announcement is not very professional – forecasting something without giving users a concrete information and plan.
NING is the only network that allows you to create your own social network they say. So we here @coextant and @doXtop think – if we can use and offer our own system instead of NING. Inside doXtop we allow you today too – to create your own social networks – and on top we have a very unique integration of document management, document collaboration and publishing features. We call it Social Publishing Site – and here’s a sample: http://sps.doxtop.com/sps/ab5a3ff/doxtop-forum.aspx
Many features of NING we cover. And this service is for Free,
Things we miss can be done if I spend 100-200 days of work at it.
Unfortunately unlike NING with their 160 people (which they reduced now to 90) I had 2 people on the entire doXtop as you know it today. We are interested to get a lot of users for our FREE services – and if you see a chance there to cooperate – let us know.
By the way: What happened to NING CEO Gina Bianchini? Is she gone? She should join us
)
Regards
Paul

Dear Paul,
Gina Bianchini, is no longer CEO of Ning.com
I am very grateful to have the opportunity to evaluate and utilize the Social Publishing Site!
Here is a link to John McDonald’s blog on Ning.com describing the situation.
http://about.ning.com/management/index.php
Excerpt from John McDonald’s post:
Main Point 1.) You will have at least 10 weeks to evaluate the new pricing structure and make a decision to move to the new paid service. Main Point 2.) Rumor: “Only very large networks will be able to afford the new fees.” FALSE. I am confident that many of you, particularly those of you already paying for premium services, will be pleasantly surprised by our new pricing structure. Main Point 3.) Rumor: “This change means teachers and non-profits won’t be able to continue to use Ning.” FALSE.
Paul, There are over 59 comments to that blog post, which is fewer than I expected.
Obviously, I cannot rant about this forever. I have to prepare for the future, and I hope that many will take me up on the opportunity to work together in the spirit of cooperation.
People are looking for a valid alternative for publishing their social networks free.
We will see what we can accomplish together.
